Planetarium Service For Schools
We need to share this enthusiasm and wonder with our schoolchildren and show them just how vast, magical and wonderful the universe is!
Looking up at the stars is something we can all do, outside and at night but that is not practical in a school environment and in school hours. So what do we do? We bring the night sky to your school hall for all to see!
The portable planetarium can accommodate 30 children and a couple of teachers. Inside, we project the night sky onto the inside of the planetarium using a special planetarium projector and there! – the wonders of the stars and planets are above for all to see!
The Startastic planetarium enables the experienced astronomer to project the night sky for any hour of any day of the year at any latitude from just below the equator to how the skies can be seen if the observer were standing at the North pole.
In addition, astronomical slides and music enhance the presentation. The whole presentation creates the illusion of being outside on a clear moonless night when the observer can see something like 2,000 naked eye stars in the sky.
The lessons cater for different school years and align closely with other work the pupils will be doing in that year whether KS 2 or 3. I can set up the planetarium in the school hall or gym (it must be inside) and perform up to 4 shows per day. For example, 4 shows in a junior school could cover years 3,4,5 and 6 and reflect their teaching units (for schools with more than one class per year, more time will be required). I also teach year 7 pupils to unit KS3 7L – The Solar System and Beyond.
